Senior living community strengthens local bonds through tradition, celebration
TYRONE, Pa. – Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone takes an active role in being a good neighbor, as the senior living community annually participates in civic-minded events throughout the Tyrone region.
Team members and residents actively engage in the community, whether by serving meals to those in need, joining the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or celebrating local traditions and holidays.
Recently, Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone played a key role in the Borough of Tyrone’s nearly weeklong Irish Heritage celebration.
“We helped kick off Irish Heritage week with a traditional Irish Toast celebration at Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone,” Executive Operations Officer Dawn Karlheim said of the mid-March event.
“We appreciate our role in this annual tradition led by the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce and its events and promotions committee,” said Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone Community Relations Director Jennifer Fleck. “The event took place in both the activity room and the Florida Room in our community. Our EOO Dawn Karlheim led a champagne toast. We also had green punch, soda, water and beer.
“Our Dining Experiences Director Mary Komisar and her team prepared a menu that included Reuben sandwiches and green deviled eggs to get everyone into the Irish Heritage spirit,” Fleck said. “Each attendee received a St. Patrick’s Day themed bead necklace.”
The Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone team and residents participated in the toast. Members of the surrounding area were invited, and some of those attendees participated in tours of the senior living community.
“The toast was a lively and heartwarming event, filled with laughter, shared stories and a festive spirit that set the tone for the rest of the celebration held throughout the area,” Karlheim said. “One winner took home a door prize with a handmade mug from The Brew Coffee and Tap, chocolate from Gardners Candies and a gift card from Mansion Donuts.”
“We always want to be a part of the events and activities throughout our region,” Karlheim continued. “Through celebrations like the Irish Heritage Toast, we strengthen our commitment to the community and celebrate the traditions that bring us together.”
